Migraine Attacks

Chances are, you or someone you know suffers from migraine attacks. Many of those who suffer from these intense headaches don’t realize they are suffering from this chronic illness. Of those who are diagnosed, many have friends or family members who would like to help them but aren’t sure exactly what to do.

Classic Book Heidi Has Two Sequels. Who Knew?

One of the fun parts of working at the Library is getting to talk to the customers about the various books they read and recommend. The other day, a woman wanted to read the sequels to Heidi, the children's classic by Johanna Spyri. I didn't even know there were sequels. I searched MCPL's catalog and didn't find anything. I got on WorldCat and, sure enough, there were two sequels by Charles Tritten, Heidi Grows Up and Heidi's Children.

Weird Weather

The last year has seen some really strange weather. As I write this, we have just experienced 2 days in the 80s, when just the week before it was cold and rainy. Now the forecasters tell us that we could be experiencing record low high temperatures in the 40s.

Say What?

Alright guys, I’m getting down to brass tacks here. I’m not some fuddy-duddy who can’t get her foot in the door, you know. I don’t have an axe to grind, but some would say I go the whole hog. That’s because I know my onions!

I don’t care to paint the town red. I just want to live the life of Riley. I’ve had my fifteen minutes of fame. It was a red letter day, let me tell you! I have been on cloud nine and sold down the river. But everything is hunky-dory.

It was one of the most popular books of 2012, and people from all walks of life are reading this book. People, who don’t read much, have read it. But, what do you do when the series is over? I’m Willing to be Bumped

A friend has taught me to arrive at the check-in counter and offer my seat in exchange for a later flight. This worked in our favor when she and I traveled to Maine a few years ago. Due to a thunderstorm, our flight out of KCI to Maine was delayed. The airline used our tickets for someone else. However, we got on the same flight but were seated in first class. That was my first clue as to the benefits of this adventure.

Local Romance Authors

This year, from May 1-5, Kansas City will be hosting the Romantic Times Convention at the Sheraton Hotel. This is a time for people to interact with some of their favorite authors. I love that some of the new authors and more established authors live right here in Kansas City. Some of our popular local authors include Julie Garwood, Carla Cassidy, and Shannon Butcher. (Shannon Butcher is also married to the popular fantasy author Jim Butcher). Some of the new and upcoming authors are Claire Ashgrove, Heather Snow, and Saranna DeWylde.

Midwest Genealogy Offers Great Help for Ancestry Search

On a recent daytrip to Jamesport, MO we ventured over to Trenton, MO to see the Crowder State Park. This is supposedly named after a distant relative of mine, Enoch Crowder, who was a Major General in the U.S. Army. He was instrumental in developing the Selective Service Act during World War 1 and was also an ambassador to Cuba.
