Lots of you may have read a great book called Dewey: the Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. Here at Platte City, we have our own little version of Dewey…his name is Bookley, the fish. Bookley is a beta fish who has lived at the Library for several months now. Let me tell you, he’s really got a great thing going.
Two years ago, my husband and I packed up a U-HAUL and drove 500 miles to Kansas City from Indiana for his new job. Now, we are downsizing from a 1500 square foot apartment with three walk-in closets to a place with 2 closets and only 1100 square feet.
This may not seem like a big loss to most people, but just let me say that I like clothes. I really like shoes. And, I LOVE purses. I have a single closet dedicated just for my collection.
It was time. Time to tackle possibly the worst job of spring time. Time to tackle my…pampas grass.
The housing developer had helpfully planted three clumps of pampas grass in my yard, which was a generous overture to be sure. Still it wasn’t long before they became banes of my existence, shedding huge spears of rough-edged leaves all over the neighborhood. Thus began my three-year mission to boldly go where no one had gone before and remove the offending weeds once and for all.
Do you find that you spend a lot of your time cruising on Twitter or Facebook and can’t wait for that next update from your best friend? Or maybe, you find that social networking in general is too intimidating, and you avoid it at all costs.
Did your mother ever tell you to eat your greens? Is she still telling you to?
Well, according to www.leafygreens.org, there are at least 10 great reasons to eat your greens. Though, they strangely leave out the ever important eleventh rule of always doing what your mother tells you to.
I entered the community theater world just a few years ago. My previous experience with the stage consisted of a starring role in my kindergarten skit and a major part in a fourth grade Christmas show. Oh, and I can’t leave out my performance as an extra in Brecht’s "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" when I was in the seventh grade. Just to let you know, Brecht was not a hit in Texas City, TX.
