I’ll admit that I’m a big dork. I love to read…that’s probably why I work at the Library. One of my favorite things to do is check out the Forthcoming Titles section of our catalog. I’ll often spend an hour or so looking through the forthcoming material, finding the newest releases from my most read authors.
Almost nothing is more annoying to me than car troubles. My poor car has been through the ringer, and it’s frustrated me to no end. Two years ago, we replaced all four tires, shocks, and struts for the outrageous price of over $1000. Imagine my surprise when a few months later I found myself with flat tires (I’m not talking one flat tire, I mean all four in less than a year). After having the tires checked out, we determined that they hadn’t been sealed properly. Our mechanic took care of it and we moved on.
As June is Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month, I thought this presented an excellent time to talk about the two happy cats who call my house home.
To be honest, they were not shelter cats, but they were what I call "rescue cats." Rupert (yes, that’s her name, and yes, she’s a female) came to me when I rescued her from my parents barn several years ago. As my mother says, she’s the only cat that ever went to college. I hauled her back and forth between college apartments and my parent’s house for three years until I finally graduated.

A few weeks ago, when I blogged about the joys of moving and how much I dread getting rid of things, I casually mentioned that I happen to love purses. Well, the truth eventually came out. I don’t just love purses; I am admittedly obsessed with them.
After last count (even after the purging I’ve done for the move), I have close to fifty. To me, this seems like a reasonable number. Others, however, respond with disbelief.
We all know that The Hunger Games was an enormous success, both in print and on film. But as the hold list now exceeds 1000+ , chances are high that you’re going to need something to read while you wait on your copy. Thankfully, here at the Platte City Branch, we’ve come up with a few options that will appeal to those who can’t get enough of Katniss.
Have you ever started a project and thought, "Oh this will be a breeze! Just a little this, a little that, and Voila!” But in reality, it takes twice as long, or three times, or four times, or in my case, six months longer than planned?
It so happens, I started one of these projects almost a year ago. And it began simply enough – as these things so often do --when I walked into a fantastic fixer upper home with my family. Our realtor asked me "Are you sure you want a house you have to put work into and not one that you can just move right in?"
