The world lost an important figure with the death of Margaret Thatcher. The Iron Lady, as Margaret Thatcher is often referred, was the first and only female British Prime Minister. She died Monday, April 8, 2013 at the age of 87. She was the daughter of a grocer and rose to Prime Minister from 1979 through 1990, during which time she was known for her toughness in her personal life, as well as politically.
Is your daughter an advanced reader? Many parents ask us for "rated G" books for their children. They say things like, "Well…my child is only in 3rd grade but she reads on a 5th or 6th grade level, can you give me something that isn’t in the teen section?"
Well, I have a list of books for you to try if your young daughter is an advanced reader. (I will post another blog later with this same topic and list books for boys.)
If you frequent our storytimes, you know that the Library promotes early literacy. We offer tips and books that will help you help your child get ready to read. After all, reading is one of the most important building blocks for your child’s future.
Here are some of our tips written out for your convenience. We hope to see you at storytime.
I have always been fascinated by Alaska’s Iditarod Trail Race that is held every year. The race starts on the first Saturday in March and runs from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska.
Depending on whether it is an even or odd year, the race is from 1049 miles to 1150 miles. On even years, the race takes a northern route, which is a little shorter than the southern route ran on the odd years.
I’m sure, if you use our website on a regular basis, you are aware of the blogs our staff members have posted. Hopefully, they’re enjoyed. We always enjoy when you comment or ask further questions about the blogs.
The kitchen is the hub of my home, just as it is for most people. And it also seems to be the place where every book, magazine, and random piece of paper finds a home, which a quick glance around my kitchen right now confirms!
Do you have your calendars marked for this upcoming Saturday? It's time for the annual Snake Saturday parade in North Kansas City. This is a family-friendly event with various activities that anyone can enjoy. The first Snake Saturday parade in North Kansas City was in 1983, and it has grown to become quite an event in the Northland. There will be carnival rides, food, a car show, free pony rides, and a petting zoo for the wee lads and lassies!
