Even though the book No Two Alike by Keith Baker has few words, it shows the many differences of things in nature. Baker shows, through beautifully drawn pictures, that while things may be very similar, no two are exactly alike.
As many of you know, this past spring was a comic geeks dream. This was due to Marvel Studio's release of Marvel's the Avengers. This was only the biggest team-up of all time, putting heavy hitters like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Black Widow together for the first time on the big screen. Not only did this movie smash records, but it set the stage for a well-defined universe of characters we have been reading about for years.
I found a cute story about winter today. It’s called Here Comes Jack Frost by Kazuno Kohara. It is about a little boy whose friends are all hibernating. He sees Jack Frost through the window and goes out to play with him.
They ice skate, sled, throw snowballs, and build snowmen all winter until spring arrives. Jack must leave, but he assures the boy he will return next winter.
The last few years, the Liberty Branch has been offering random prizes to promote reading during Teen Read Week. This year was no exception. During TRW (which ran from October 14-20), we held a drawing for a Kindle Simple Touch. We extended the drawing to Halloween in order to give teens a chance to hear about the giveaway and enter.
We had several entries, but there could be only one winner! On Halloween night, we drew our first eReader winner. Congratulations Courtney O! Enjoy your new Kindle Simple Touch!
On a cold winter day after the holiday, I decided to read Christmas Jars by Jason F. Wright. I thought, "What the heck, it’s a small book and I still feel the spirit of Christmas." I am so glad I decided to read it; the message was so powerful!
Have you ever dreamed of reliving your childhood memories of Christmas? The book, Have Yourself a Very Vintage Christmas by Susan Waggoner, will allow you to do just that. The book provides craft projects, decorating tips, and recipes from the decades ranging from the 1920s through the 1960s.
It’s that time of year again. It is time to start thinking about your holiday cooking. I don’t know how it got here so fast. If you need any help finding good recipes, try looking for holiday cooking in the catalog.
You can also go to MCPL’s Web Resources. There are a lot of good websites listed here.
Just when you thought the election was over, the Library is asking for your support. Once again, MCPL is participating in "The Giving Trees" project. The festive Christmas trees are on the square in the historical downtown area of Liberty, Missouri.
The Liberty Branch now has a Twitter account! You can find us at twitter.com/MCPLLI. All of our Facebook posts also go out as tweets, so follow us on Twitter and keep up with what’s happening at the Library.
The slow cooker is a handy year-round appliance that I regularly use in my home. I love being able to pre-prepare my meals on the weekends. I simply toss the ingredients into the cooker before I leave for work, and when I return my meal is complete. Whether you are at work, shopping, or at your child’s soccer game, this wonderful appliance allows you to escape while your dinner is cooking.
