I've been a Bruce Springsteen fan ever since I saw him in concert when I was a freshman in high school in 1984. So, I was pretty excited to read the exhaustive, new, authorized biography of "The Boss."
Like many people who grew up in the Kansas City area in the 1970s, I was a big Kansas City Royals fan. It was a great time to be a baseball fan. The Royals went to the playoffs several times during my childhood, culminating with their only World Series title in 1985.
Geocache is an outdoor recreational activity in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers called geocaches or caches anywhere in the world.
The Lee's Summit Branch is geocaching inside the branch. One of our local Boy Scout troops has created a "make believe" book with a "make believe" call number that the scouts will be asked to find in the Library.
I just recently finished reading the great, new Marvel Comics The Untold Storyby Sean Howe. It chronicles the history of "The House of Ideas" in great detail. I've always had a fascination with comic book history and I knew quite a bit about Marvel's past, but this book taught me some things I never knew, mostly about the genesis of several of the company's 1970's superheroes.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. A big reason for this is my unabashed love of the horror movies Universal Studios produced in the 1930s.
I've always been a fan of Hawaii Five-O. The original show with Jack Lord was always a big part of my childhood TV viewing in the 70's. A couple of years ago, CBS decided to reboot the show for a new generation. It's become kind of a guilty pleasure here at the Lee's Summit Branch. It's a fun show that always has one or two comically implausible scenes per episode that we always talk about the next day.
This fall marks the 50th anniversary of one of the most beloved film franchises of all time. The James Bond movies have been thrilling audiences worldwide ever since the premiere of Dr. Noin October 1962.
It's Roald Dahl day! Great right? What exactly does it mean again?
Roald Dahl is my all-time favorite children's author. He's the creator of characters many of us grew up with. Matilda, James (of Giant Peach Fame), Charlie (as in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and the Witches are just some of my favorite.
