When I mention board games, what’s the first thing you think of? Playing one with friends? Using a board game as entertainment at family gatherings? Maybe, you played one with friends and family to pass the time during a cold winter storm?

The Winning Photo from our End of the Year Photo Contest Is…
What you see above is the picture that was chosen as the winner of our End of the Year photo contest. In this picture, Venice Cherrito became one of the first kids to use of our Early Literacy Station when it arrived at our branch. This computer has a wide variety of interactive programs for children that will help them develop math, language, and problem solving skills while having fun at the same time. Since this picture was taken back in July, many other children have discovered how much fun it is to use this computer.
The photo you see at the top of this blog won second place in our End of the Year photo contest. The horse in the picture was part of our Meet 4-H Horses at the Library program this summer. We would like to give a special thanks to the members of the Ray County 4-H Clever Clovers group for making this program possible.
Come back next week to find out what picture won first place.
You know, sometimes you've just had it. Maybe it was hearing White Christmas for the 10,000th time, or a particularly enthusiastic Salvation Army bell ringer. Maybe it was looking at your most recent credit card statement. Whatever the reason, about this time of year many of us are just ready for the entire holiday season to be over (No matter how much we may love Christmas and Hanukkah and New Year’s). When this happens, why not indulge in a little humor?
No matter what holidays you may be celebrating this season, you likely still need to get a gift for someone. But why do all the gift ideas have to be so expensive? This year I'm trying to be thrifty, so I'm going the homemade route. I've already finished the cookies and the preserves, but I'm still struggling with my attempts at knitting projects…
If you're the crafty type, why not check out some of these titles and make some truly unique gifts (and save some money) this year:
We have a tie for the third place spot in our "End of the Year" photo contest. The picture you see above is from our Meet an Excelsior Springs Police Dog program. Officer Robert Warner and his dog Zarko came to our branch in March to help us learn more about police dogs and what they do. As you can see from the picture, they were both a big hit with our audience.
Last month, we hired a few new employees at our Excelsior Springs Branch. One of those new employees is Wayne, who is now a Substitute Library Clerk. Wayne is a retired law enforcement officer for the city of Excelsior Springs. He served for 31 years, and for the last 5 he was a detective. I had the pleasure of asking him a few questions today.
Me: How are you enjoying your new job here at the Library?
Wayne: I’m loving it, but the computer’s dealing me a fit so far!
The votes have been counted; now it’s time to show you all which of our top 20 pictures from the Library were selected as the best photos. The Photo Fun group and branch staff members were asked to choose the best four out of 20 pictures taken at the Library this year. The picture you see above won fourth place. It was taken at our teen finger painting program in July.
Come back next week to find out what photo won third place.
