Meet the Edgerton Staff: Terry

Some people may not know about one of our most important employees here at the Edgerton Branch: our Custodian! We routinely receive compliments when people walk in the door about how clean and neat our library is and how good it smells here. We say, "It’s because Terry does such a good job of keeping our branch clean!"

I thought I would take an opportunity to ask her a few questions about her job.

Q: What is your position, here at the Edgerton Branch?
A: Custodian

Q: How long have you worked here?
A: Fifteen years!

For the Birds

It is that time of year again, isn’t it? The roses are cut back. The leaves are turning colors, and soon we will be raking and bagging the falling ones. The grass seed and last dose of fertilizer has been put on the yard, and an extra layer of mulch is around the flowers and bushes. The hummingbirds have flown south (hopefully), and now it is time to take down their feeders and put up the bird feeders.

The Avengers

In 1963, writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby created a team of superheroes called The Avengers. In the success of DC Comic’s team of superheroes called the Justice League of America, Marvel Comics had decided to create one for themselves, which was where the Avengers came into play.

How a Student Uses MCPL

Several weeks ago, I moved back into my residence hall at Missouri Western State University for college. As far as feelings went, I was pretty prepared for my sophomore year. I’m majoring in Art/Graphic Design, and all the classes I was signed up to take seemed fairly easy.

3 Free Music Downloads Every Week!

My kids are always asking if they can download music from the Internet. Thanks to MCPL, I can say yes!

MCPL and Freegal Music have teamed up to provide library customers access to music downloads. Though your limited to three downloads a week, there are nearly 3 million songs to choose from. The music you download is yours to keep; there's no return dates and no late fees. Freegal is super easy to use and fast, too. I found my favorite artists in seconds.

Based On the Book

I love books...I love movies...And sometimes, I love movies based on books! There are a lot of movies coming out in the next year that are based on some really good books. Here are some titles that I am looking forward to watching. I plan on reading, or in some cases, rereading the books to prepare for the film version.

ELVIS SPOTTED……in Edgerton, Missouri

On September 8th, I attended Edgerton Pioneers Day, an annual festival the takes place each fall in Edgerton, Missouri. One of the events that I attended was the Elvis impersonation. Bobby Simkins, the Elvis impersonator, did a great job keeping the crowd entertained.

MCPL provides a number of resources about Elvis, including biographies, movies, and sound recordings (CDs), all available for checkout.

Some examples of materials offered by MCPL:

Looking for a Job?

Listening to the news this morning, I was once again reminded of the unfortunate individuals that have been laid off or those that have lost their jobs in some way. With Missouri’s unemployment rate at 7.2, I wondered how we stacked up against the other states. I found out that we are about in the middle. There are also those young people that have graduated from high school or college with the dreams of that perfect job. They, too, are entering the work force, but are unable to find employment.

Join Us For Anime Afternoons!

Anime, or Japanese animation, has had a very large fan base for years. The first known anime was a short released in 1917, with anime quickly becoming a popular medium for cartoonists in Japan by the1930s. It became its own style – ceasing to be called cartoons and being influenced by the American Walt Disney Company to become true-to-the-core anime.
