Recently, while watching a travel show, I saw a lady making needle lace in Burano, Italy. I had seen pictures of this lace before, but I didn't know what it was called or how it was made. Well, of course because I’m a crafter, curiosity got the best of me. I logged on to MCPL'S online catalog and discovered that there were several nonfiction books about the history of lace and instructions on making several different kinds.
Many years ago, when I was young, I remember going to the library. It was a small, cement block room underneath a building. There were no windows; just a glass front door. No pictures on the walls, no computers- just rows and rows of books.
If you are reading this blog, that means that the Mayans were wrong and the world did not end back in December. Being so close to an assumed end of the world makes me think of two things:
I picked up Plain Truth a couple years ago after watching the movie, My Sister’s Keeper, and subsequently reading the book of the same title. I had decided to read all of Picoult’s novels, because I was so moved by My Sister’s Keeper.
The month of February makes one think of sending flowers to those we love. Flowers come in varied shapes, colors, and fragrances and cause us to wonder at their beauty. We like and choose flowers because of their beauty, but at one time people sent specific flowers for certain meanings. For example, baby’s breath meant everlasting love, while yellow roses meant fading love, and of course, red roses meant love.
When my interest in anime really started budding about nine years ago, I was under the impression that the extent of my fandom (fan domain) would be the Internet. I watched the shows and was able to talk about them with people on sites my mom had deemed safe for me, but I wanted to be able to experience more.
All types of fan conventions generally are branches of science fiction conventions, which began in the late 1930s. Anime conventions center on Japanese animation, and there are hundreds of cons held every year in America.
This month I had the pleasure of interviewing Edgerton staff member, Vicki.

We are counting down to our fifth meeting of the school year! Our next Teen Book Club meeting will be on Thursday, January 31st.
So far this year, we have read some really good books. The North Platte Junior High Teen Book Club meets on the last Thursday of the month at 2:52 p.m. in the Junior High library. Here are the titles we have read so far:
Being in college comes with its fun and its challenges. Though I really enjoy it up at Missouri Western, sometimes it can get a bit monotonous. That’s where movies come in. My suitemate and best friend, Alesha, and I like to get together in the evenings to watch movies every now and again. We have some movies from home, but sometimes we want to watch brand new movies – like The Avengers.
