Keep your mind sharp and pages turning by taking part in the Mid-Continent Public Library Summer Reading Program. SRP starts May 21 and goes until July 31.
Teens can earn library bucks, which can be used for paying your fines, paying for a lost card, purchasing flash drives and ear buds, or purchasing a backpack or book. Pre-teens can earn a book for the first two lists and a choice of a yellow tote bag, a yellow rubber duck, a yo-yo, or one of many fun books for their third list.
Launched in 1999, Get Caught Reading is a nationwide campaign to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read, and how important it is for kids to read or be read to. Research indicates that early language experience actually stimulates a child's brain to grow and that reading to children gives them a huge advantage when they start school. How appropriate it is that MCPL's Summer Reading Program starts in May!

On Monday, April 30, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., the Edgerton Branch will present Beginning Knitting with Maurita Buhl. Maurita first exhibited that Can-Do attitude when, at the age of ten, she found a book that explained the basics of knitting. Using this book to learn, she has been knitting ever since and is now known as "the Fastest Fingers in Missouri."
Are you also a self-starter and wanting to learn a new skill? MCPL provides a number on print and electronic resources to help.
A few months ago, I was running errands, and when I tried to get home, my road was blocked by the county sheriff’s department and highway patrol. There had been a fatality accident, and they didn’t know how long it would be before the road was open. So, I now had a dilemma of what to do on a hot day in a small town.
The day I walked up to a critter hanging out on my living room wall, totally intending to smash and dash it, and then ended up feeling like a combination of the wrong half of David and Goliath and a mean Gulliver, I knew I had crossed the line from animal appreciator to animal lover. The tiny, 3/8 inch spider braced itself and bravely threw up its front legs, quite ready to do battle with the oncoming threat. Good gravy! It wasn’t as big as my little fingernail.
Oh yes indeed! Local farmer, Ben Keefhaver, will be bringing a baby piglet to storytime on Wednesday, March 21 for the kids to experience up close. And, everyone’s favorite storyteller, Miss Kat, will be sharing one of my all-time favorite children’s stories, Little Pink Pupby Johanna Kerby. A true life farm tale of Pink, the runt of
There are leprechauns on the loose in Edgerton! Wear your green and join us for Family Storytime on Wednesday, March 14th at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate all things Irish.
