Snake Saturday and St. Patrick’s Day are March activities that some look forward to all year. As well they should be, given that March is Irish-American Heritage Month. However, March is not only for the Irish. The month is also marked for another equally lively clan; it is also Greek Heritage Month.
Science is full of amazing things, most of which seem to be geared towards blowing – my – mind. As a librarian, I think the same thing about fiction. A story can transport, confound, and absolutely astound you just as easily. It follows that science fiction must then be as good as it gets – at least I like to think so.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and while you may want to acknowledge a loved one, a strained or tight budget can limit your choices.
If cash is low, Never fear, Heigh ho, MCPL is here!
We are happy to ride to the rescue with selections galore.
A dozen red roses may be traditional, but a single rose in a favorite color can say, "I love you" just as well or better. Another alternative could be to give a miniature rose bush, packets of perennials, and herbs or bulbs, or a gift that keeps on giving for long after Valentine’s Day is past.
I just finished this page-turner. It's a compilation of short stories titled Love is Murder edited by Sandra Brown. I do mean edited by, not written by. Brown wielded her heavyweight author status to add other big names to the thriller anthology.
This week, we are highlighting another community partner, BBQ Fans Inc. Located just across the street from the Library at 312 E. US Highway 69, BBQ Fans dabbles in a little bit of everything.
After several years of successful online business, BBQ Fans reversed the current business trend and elected to have a brick and mortar storefront right here in the village of Claycomo.
There grand opening was in November of 2010 and, of course, it included food by their resident grill masters.
Claycomo Board of Trustees Meeting – Rescheduled until 1/15/13
The first Claycomo Board of Trustees meeting for the new year was set for last night at 7:30 p.m.
Chairman Pro-tem Marina Barker was in attendance. Board Trustee Jim Stoufer was away on a planned absence. As Board Trustee Debbie Taylor was ill and Board Trustees Greg Thompson and Ben Watkins were unable to attend, the meeting was adjourned until this evening, Tuesday, 1/15/13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Claycomo Community Building.
Among topics to be discussed, the soon-to-be revised pole barn ordinance will be revisited with more details including potential building plans.
2012 may have been a rough year, but it officially behind us. 'Tis a brand New Year, and with that we’ll each undoubtedly be listing out brand new or previously unrealized, unsuccessful resolutions.
Instead of chastising oneself for the failures or simply resolving to improve such things as weight loss, finances, and getting more organized, how about instead (or in tandem with these) electing to learn something new, whether it be a new skill, craft, or new way of thinking.
I sat down with Janet Devine, co-owner of Ma & Pa’s Kettle, for a chat about her business, her regulars, and the story behind how she became a restaurateur. On any given day, she is busy dishing up exactly what Ma & Pa would to a lunchtime mob. At noon, the restaurant can be standing-room only.
As I glanced up at the board, I could see that the free meal winner of the day was John R. (Congrats John.) It’s a testament to the kind of establishment I’m sitting in. It is a community space, according to Devine, as much as it is a restaurant.
Our book club cannot meet tonight due to road conditions, but we will still discuss our book here. Below you'll find a summary of the book we read, Matched by Ally Condie and the questions to answer.
