It’s that time of year! I remember May being the end of school and the beginning of MCPL’s Summer Reading Program. I loved MCPL’s Summer Reading Program and now your children can, too! The following are the guidelines for this year’s Summer Reading Program.
MCPL’s Summer Reading Program starts on May 21st. The Reading Program consists of two categories: Children and Teens.
The children’s theme for this year is “Dream Big...Read!” The children’s category is broken down into Listeners and Readers.
The Pulitzer Prize winners have been announced. Traditionally, we at MCPL would see requests for one title in particular spike as soon as the announcement was made. However, this year will be different. For the first time in 35 years, no fiction award was given to a single title.
There are so many fun things to see and do in Kansas City, but it’s the newest that has so many excited.
First, we had Worlds of Fun. Then Oceans of Fun was added to our local list of excursions. Now, it looks like we will have two water-worlds right here in Kansas City. The aquarium is just about ready for the grand opening.
"We are going to Lake Pomme de Terre for a getaway weekend." That does sound much more exciting, idyllic, and spa-like, than, "We are going to Lake Potato for the weekend." Pomme de terre is French for potato—literally, apple of the ground.
The lowly potato does have its own National Month (September), and deservedly so. It has been a staple and a savior for many impoverished families. The massive Irish immigration of the past to the USA was spurred on by the Potato Famine.
It appears spring has indeed sprung. Though the Vernal Equinox is still a week away, you could have fooled the birds, who are already chirping away in the unseasonably warm March air. True to form, the flora and fauna are springing back to life after their winter dormancy. With the welcome temperatures and the greening of the landscape, comes another beacon of spring—allergy season.
And like spring itself, it’s well ahead of schedule.
A Testimonial for Live Homework Help from Tutor.com
Trying to convince your student that there are options available at your local library to help them with their homework can be an uphill battle. Last night, I had the opportunity to prove to my teenager that the power of a library card from our local library can unlock websites that usually demand payment such as Tutor.com, which he was able to Google but not access. That morning, I was sharing all the benefits of this tool to a non-believer.
In the past few years, it seems the media concentrated more on Whitney Houston’s trials and tribulations, her rather sad personal life, and no-shows. The one thing that nobody can dispute is her incredible talent. Her voice has a haunting, timelessness that appeals to many ages, genders, and musical preferences; be they jazz, pop, classical, or hip-hop. There are many who attain mega-star status, singers and bands, but their fame and music is transitory. Then you have the select few whose voices transcend generations. Whitney, I believe, belongs to that group.
