I thought it would be fun to share a blog about some of my favorite authors that I use for storytime! Here is a list of those authors and their books I love to read to children over and over again.
Ok, so we all make resolutions… and fail to keep them. We set such lofty goals for ourselves that generally include doomed words like: diet, exercise, and organization.
Some of you have probably heard about the new Christmas tradition, The Elf on the Shelf. But for those of you that haven’t, check it out! You can buy the elves at your local Barnes & Noble or Target. The kit comes with a boy or girl elf and the hardback story book The Elf on the Shelf. Give the elf a name, read the book, and then sign the certificate in the back of the book dating when the tradition officially began in your home. If you’re unfamiliar with this, go to the website.
I love the Christmas season, not just the religious aspects but also the traditions and memories. When I was a young girl growing up in England during the 1940s-50s money was extremely tight (although at the time I did not realize it, we were all in the same boat). In school we made paper chains and bells out of the “silver” off of sweet wrappers with which we were to decorate our classroom tree. We also made calendars out of old Christmas cards, and used glitter to enhance the snow.
Grandbabies, are they the best or what? I just had a new grandson born today, and I can’t wait to get off of work to go and visit this new little creature that weighed over 8 lbs. and was over 20 inches long. I am so happy for mom, dad, and baby. All went well.
Boardwalk Storytime Break... A Great Time to Start a New Tradition!
All Boardwalk storytimes will be taking a December break from Monday, December 17, 2012 through January 1, 2013. This will give all of us time to finish our holiday preparations and prepare for the new year. We will resume all storytimes in their usual slots on Tuesday, January 2, 2013.
It’s that time again, where everything outside is bare and everything inside is warm and cozy! So many of us don’t really take a liking to the cold weather, but hey, it’s the cycle of life. We have to have the seasons. Below is a poem I wrote many years ago when I lived on a farm and was able, on this particular day, to kick back and take in the beauty of the cold, crisp pond. Try to take a deep breath, a long walk, and reflect what a blessing it is to be alive and able to experience four seasons.
You never know what you will find at the Library. Today began like any normal day until a customer checked out A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin, the first in the Earthsea series.
I have been thinking about my ego lately. In order to do that, I have to get out of my body and into the gap. What I mean is to try and silence the thoughts and become more aware of what I’m saying and thinking at the time. It means putting my ego aside and being still.
Old Encyclopedias Taking Up Space? Contribute to Our Christmas Tree Art!
We have decided to build a Christmas tree with old books that are no longer needed and out of date. We are halfway done! Encyclopedia sets are especially helpful for Christmas tree building, as they are uniform in size and discourage lopsided artistry. If you are ready to say goodbye to an old set of reference books, please bring them to Boardwalk and see your books turned into a Christmas tree!
