Hello, spring is here! Well, maybe not quite! The first day of spring is March 20th, right around the corner. I have enjoyed the snow and so have my kids! It has been a while since they have been able to play in the snow. But soon it will all melt away, and we’ll see new buds on the trees and green grass!
I’m old enough to be a grandmother, but instead find myself in my later years raising a very active three-year-old named Ruby Joy. She has reddish-brown hair, huge, expressive brown eyes, and a little stump of a tail. Did I mention that she is a cute, annoying, bounce off the walls, hyper, lick-everything-in-sight, boxer? Yes, she has four legs, but she is my baby. My husband and I finally got our last fledgling out of the house and were enjoying a happy empty nest.
Another area of concern, when there is a death in the family, is finances. Things are not the same, believe you me. Having taken a class via the University of Missouri Extension, I discovered that many women (older than I) had never balanced a checkbook! They did not know anything about budgets or how to “cut back.” There are many available agencies to help one out today, many of them have books and other tools to help you.
When a loved one passes on, it is one of the hardest things to deal with on every level. Until someone walks in your shoes, no one has an inkling of what you are going through.
Talk About a Win!... Here's How to Help the Library WIN!
Two weeks ago, I finally ventured into new technological territory and purchased my first eReader. This purchase came after spending almost a year pondering what type of device I thought would best suit my wants and needs, and learning how various devices worked in regards to checking out eBooks through the OverDrive Digital Downloads website.
Alright, I have something rather neat to share with all of you. Mid-Continent Public Library has a fantastic resource called ed2go (Education to Go). They are FREE 6-week online courses by teachers and professors that cover a variety of courses! For example, I had always been curious about the criminal justice system, and so I was browsing the courses and found a course about criminal law.
It’s the time of the year when we assess what we have accomplished last year and what we would like to accomplish in 2013. What are my goals and how shall I move towards attaining these goals? Other than the Internet, where can I go for assistance? The answer is right in front of me, the LIBRARY! I have to admit, I am not a self-help book reading individual, nor do I particularly enjoy reading nonfiction in general. I will scan through books of interest that cover specific areas.
Can we apply any of these synonyms to our New Year’s Resolutions that we have set for 2013? Are you awarding yourself? Have you been called? Are you trying to be delivered from something? Do you have the determination to achieve this goal? What decision did you set for yourself for 2013, and what is the verdict?
