In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and that calendar week as National Police Week, meaning that National Police Week 2012 is Sunday, May 13th through Saturday, May 19th.
Although I've never been a comic book fan, for some reason, I really enjoy superhero movies. The Avengers has gotten some rave reviews, so I look forward to seeing it sometime in the future. Since I am mildly interested in these movies, seeing an Avengers reading list in the American Libraries magazine web site piqued my interest.
I am a runner. It is my main form of exercise, and I enjoy it most of the time. I even compete in local races of various distances several times a year.
May is National Barbecue Month and National Hamburger Month!
So, bring out the grills, dust them off, and fire them up! Besides meat, you can grill many different kinds of food that you may never have thought of, including vegetables and fruit.
Since I’m always on the lookout for quick and easy recipes, I’ve started reading cookbooks from the Gooseberry Patch collection. These fun books have a comb binding and are illustrated throughout with pen and ink drawings that give them a charming country feel. They are filled with simple, down-home recipes made with basic ingredients. The recipes are collected from cooks across the country and include personal comments and memories from the recipe contributors.

The wait is finally over! After 18 months of waiting, Mad Men’s fifth season debut aired on March 25th.
AMC's Mad Men made history last fall as the first basic cable series ever to win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in four consecutive years.
Set in 1960s New York, Mad Men follows the lives of competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising. It is a place where key players make an art of the sell.
What a bargain! Where else can you get something these days for a nickel?
With the cost of services and products on the rise, it's nice to know that one cost has remained the same for almost 50 years. How many businesses do you know of that can say that? Of course, I'm referring to the overdue fines at MCPL; only a nickel a day per item.
