Have you ever tickled a tiger? Have you ever poked a penguin? Have you ever nudged a hedgehog?
These are all lines from the book Have You Ever Tickled a Tiger by Betsy E. Snyder. My son loves this cute and colorful touch and feel book. He’s even figuring out how to use his little fingers to turn the pages, and we’ve read many times. I’m sure there are lots of other moms that can quote a book just from reading it over and over.
Girls' Day Out at the 2013 Romantic Times Booklovers Convention
Last weekend my friends and I had a "girls' day out." We met for brunch, and then all seven of us climbed into my sister-in-law's minivan to go to the 2013 Romantic Times Booklovers Convention here in Kansas City! Courtesy of our library cards, we went to the Giant Book Fair event for free! We collected autographs from favorite authors, discovered some new reading material, got our picture taken with some book cover models, and had a fabulous time!
Ah, spring! My favorite season of the year! I love the spring flowering bulbs that we planted last fall . . . the daffodils and tulips dressed up in every color!
If you have to be on a gluten free diet for any reason, you know how hard it is to find a really good dessert. You don't want ice cream, fruit, or something equally as plain; if you are anything like me, you crave cake! Unfortunately, a good gluten free cake is hard to come by, unless you want to use a mix – which usually comes out heavier than what you may like. However, I have recently come across a new book that takes gluten free cake mixes and spices them up. Suddenly, you have a whole new dessert instead of just a plain old cake!
For many years I considered fall as my favorite season. Several years ago, I changed my opinion! Spring has to be the most beautiful season because of all the lovely flowering trees and other plants. After a dreary, cold winter, it is heavenly to see trees flowering out in showy displays of white and shades from fuchsia to the softest pale pink.
Why did the birdie go to the hospital? To get a tweetment!
At our Monday Night Teens at the Library club, we have a great time. We meet every Monday night here at the Library and have between 5 and 20 teens show up for food, fellowship, and fun. One of the "requirements" I have for them is that they have to teach me something or tell me a clean joke. A lot of times they "forget" their assignment, so I have to help them along. If I share a few things, it usually jogs their brains so they can keep it going.
Founded in 1970 as a day of education about the environment, grassroots movement founder Gaylord Nelson, US Senator from Wisconsin, announced a "national teach-in on the environment." Until that time, protecting the planet's natural resources was not a part of the National political agenda. Factories pumped pollutants into the air, lakes, and rivers with few legal consequences.
Container gardens are becoming one of the most popular types of gardening. Container gardens can be grown on apartment balconies, courtyards, decks, patios, and areas with poor soil.
Just about any container can be used including clay, ceramic and plastic pots, wood barrels, wire baskets lined with sphagnum moss or coconut coir, planter boxes, and even cement blocks. Be sure you never use a container that held toxic materials, especially if edible plants are going to be grown.
It's here again - baseball season! I can't wait to go to my first Royals game of the year in a few weeks. I love the vibe and energy of the "new" Kauffman Stadium, and I love to people watch as much as I love to watch the boys in blue. And, that first hot dog and ice-cold brew always taste better than any I'll consume the rest of the summer.
Another thing I love to do is watch baseball movies. Here's my list of the top ten best:
As I was reading the news a few days ago, I saw it was Julian Lennon’s birthday. It reminded me of a time when I went to an art exhibit featuring the artwork of John Lennon. I had long been obsessed with the Beatles, so I was very excited to see the exhibit! Although I was not a great fan of Yoko Ono, she was going to be there. I was standing outside on the sidewalk when she came out to get in her limousine. As she approached, she lightly put her hand on my back and said, "excuse me." It was one of those amazing moments you never forget.
