One day, not too terribly long ago, I took one of my daughters to lunch. We had a great meal and excellent service. When it came time to pay, I discovered that I did not have any form of payment in my purse. I quickly realized that I had left my credit/debit card in the pocket of a pair of pants I had worn the day before. Thankfully, the manager was very sympathetic and allowed me to drive home to retrieve a form of payment, and I didn’t have to wash any dishes.
Thursday’s Mystery Book Club discussed The Last Detective by Robert Crais. This is the ninth book in Crais’ Elvis Cole series. Everyone found this one to be a quick read, but there was a divided line between those who didn’t care for the book and those who really enjoyed the book. Not much middle ground with this one and more of the group enjoyed this than not.

Working in a public library has some very distinct advantages. For instance, I have opportunities each day to meet and assist some of the best people in the Kansas City metro area. Additionally, I have access to books…and I love to read. As a staff member, I am supposed to be unbiased when promoting library materials and services, not showing favoritism between authors or genres. Some days this is easier to do than others!
Recently, my reading habits have taken a twist, a humorous twist. I am proud to say that I am slightly obsessed with reading parody books. Parody books imitate and often slightly mock a well-known work. I find that they are often lighter and quicker reads. I find the key to reading these is to not take them too seriously—they are meant to be funny.
