Make a Splash at the Camden Point Branch with the Summer Reading Program
The Make a Splash Summer Reading Program is off to a running start at the Camden Point Branch. Kids are checking our books, reading them, and logging their time read on the computer. Did you ever wonder what the most checked-out children’s books are? We did. So, we check and here is what we found out.
Do you want to take a summer vacation without breaking your budget? Consider staying in Missouri and checking out the sites! Missouri is the home of the Pony Express, the Ozarks, Mark Twain’s birthplace, and the thirty-third President of the United States, Harry S. Truman, to name a few. Did you know that Missouri is also home of the Frisco Highline Trail and Thespian Hall?
As you browse our collection this summer, you’ll find that the Lee's Summit Branch has added a new display table by our Most Requested Author’s section. Over the last few years, several patrons have asked us for staff recommendations. We thought we’d take advantage of the coming summer months to spotlight some our favorite summer reads. Each book is displayed with a bookmark letting you know which staff member recommended each title.
Cozy mysteries usually take place in a small town setting. There is no graphic violence or use of strong language.
They usually involve a domestic crime committed with a blunt instrument or poison. The solution to the mystery (usually in some form of puzzle) is most often solved by an amateur detective who has a keen understanding of human nature and is astute in observation and deduction.
If you like to read and talk about books, come to our book club! Everyone is welcome. We meet the second Tuesday of the month at 10:00 A.M. Our selections are eclectic and provide for a wide variety of tastes.
If you are the type of person who doesn’t like to browse the stacks for books, then come and check out our displays. We try to have something for everyone on them. They are a quick and easy way to find books that interest you.
The first display you will see is the “Thrill a Minute” display. These are the action-packed thrillers. The covers are sure to catch your eye. If it has something blowing up, planes or helicopters, the Capital building, the White House, FBI, CIA, or the KGB, on the cover, the book will be on this display.
Most people think that working in the library would be fun because we get to read all day! That’s not really the case. We spend most of our day touching your lives by touching the books that you choose to read.
Our day begins when we get the books out of the bookdrop and check them in so that they can get back on the shelves for you to browse. We spend quite a few hours each day processing the books you have requested from other branches. Another big part of our day is spent checking books in and out for you.
When some people think about the library, they imagine a place that only houses old, dusty, out of print titles. Others may assume that the library's sole purpose is to provide resources for children. That's definitely not the case at MCPL! In addition to providing up-to-date books, movies, music, and more for all ages, each of our 29 branches also carries the latest and greatest titles available.
