Nothing’s bigger than music. Everyone listens to it. I pooled a group of sonic wizards, heads of some of the nation’s greatest institutions of sound and they each gave me five essential summer records, CDs, and cylinders from their respective collections. The results:
So you may have already read them. You may have already read them forty-times-each-and-love-every-second-of-every-one-because-its-the-best-series-ever. Or you may not have picked one up yet for one reason or another… but just in case, today we’re listing out the series (drum roll, please….).
On a regular basis, we have customers leaving items behind – everything from prom pictures to ponchos, USB drives to driver’s licenses. If you are missing items, don’t forget to check back at the Blue Ridge Branch to see if we (or some kind soul) returned it to the front desk. Let us know at the front desk what it looks like, the contents if that applies, etc. After all, we would hate to give your item to somebody else by accident. So, let us know what you’re missing and a description so we know it’s the right item!
Strong Spirit Sails the Seven Seas Solo at Sixteen
I’m a little embarrassed to admit this, but I have realized lately that I am one of those people who are completely out-of-touch with most of what’s happening in the world. Although obscured by the coverage of the BP Oil Spill and the tragic death of television icon Gary Coleman, it is important to note that today marks the 55th anniversary of arguably one of the greatest events of the mid-twentieth century, the birth of Dana Thomas Carvey.
Carvey jumpstarted his career on Saturday Night Live with unforgettable characters and scarily realistic impersonations. Some of his most famous roles on SNL include: The Church Lady, Hans from Hans and Franz, Ross Perot, George Bush Sr., Neil Young, and Garth Algar from the Wayne’s World sketches.
