Sushi has its friends and its enemies. Most people either love it or hate it. Sushi is, however, everywhere.
I am always a proponent of trying new things. There is nothing wrong with expanding the mind. But, we must be careful. Trying new things, without knowledge of what you are doing, can cause problems. A good adventurer always does a little research before entering any new territory. As sushi comes from Japan, a teen who tries the fish for the first time might like to know a bit more about it. So, like it or not, here are the basics of sushi.
Legendary Jazz Musician, Fats Domino once wrote that he was ‘Going to Kansas City – Kansas City here I come!’ Whether you know the song or not, you probably know that Jazz is as important to Kansas City as Jack Stack Barbeque and the Christmas Lights on the Plaza every year. With summer half gone, Independence Day past, and back-to-school time just starting to appear on the horizon, you may be wondering what there is to do around town – or if there’s something you’ve never done before.
For the past 18 years, on the Saturday before the 4th of July weekend, the community members of Camden Point enjoy the annual Freedom Festival. The festivities begin in the afternoon with the mister and misses contest. Young boys and girls show up dressed in their Fourth of July outfits, do a talent show, and are awarded prizes.
The Camden Point Branch has a collection of "Book Bundles" that making finding books for your child quick and easy. We have bundled books by subject matter, main character, reading ability, etc. Right now we have bundles of Magic Tree House, Manners, Henry & Mudge, plus several others.

Resource Spotlight: Encyclopedia Britannica Online
Many of the reference tools that you may have used as print materials in the past have moved online. Encyclopedia Britannica is no exception. The online version of this well-known reference tool offers numerous ways to get information. These include a quick access dictionary, videos, in-depth presentations on certain topics and links to other online sites for more data. You can use the Adult or Kids version of Encyclopedia Britannica Online.
The Summer Reading Program at the Camden Point Branch is underway. Although the Camden Point Branch hosts programs throughout the whole year, it is during the summer when we host programs almost every week. And yes, most of the programs are mostly attended by kids, parents, teachers and adults.
It's my pleasure and duty to take care of the displays in the MCPL Weston Branch. I am constantly looking for fresh ideas to entice our customers to pick up one or two of these books. Recently, on a quick trip out to California to pick up a car and drive it back, my husband and I decided to drive back the Route 66 way. Honestly, we went the interstates and kept passing all the old Route 66. But it did give me an idea for a display. How about "Get Your Kicks on Route 66"? Low and behold, we had plenty of those books to make a great display.
