The Mid-Continent Public Library offers a variety of programs for the whole family. These programs are free or with a small cost for hands on materials. Moms, do you need to plan an outing for the children? Go to the library, pick up books, and take in a puppet show, juggler, or a clown. Teens are you bored? Check out the teen programs like Anime Movie Night. Those hot summer days don't have to be spent only at the pool.
Not too long ago, a staff discussion brought up the question "What was your favorite book when you were 12?" Our answers show our different personalities and how they were starting to emerge even at a young age.
I have always been a fan of British writers. There is something about reading books that take you to a different time and place. I am a bit of an Anglophile anyway, so anything involving the tiny island across the pond calls to me. I love Val McDermid, Peter Robinson, and especially P.D. James. Currently in her eighties, James has published over 20 books. Since 1962, she has been charming us with the Inspector Dalgliesh mysteries.
Over the years MCPL Raytown branch has had several crochet classes which generated interest in forming a monthly group of enthusiastic crocheters. None of us are experts—I’m still learning along with the others in the group.
Our once a month sessions are fun and non-competitive. Everyone works on their own projects at their own speed. Often, we work on projects as a group.
I promise to love you forever—every single day of forever.
Until your heart stops beating, Bella, I’ll be here fighting.
Can’t get enough of the Edward, Jacob, and Bella triangle? Ready to profess your alliance to Team Jacob or Team Edward for all eternity? Think you know more about the Twilight World than anyone? Well, we know just the place for you—Boardwalk Branch’s Twilight Saga Ball, an all-day event on Saturday, August 7th.
Has the heat wave got you down? Do you find yourself already thinking about (or wishing for) the calming snow of winter? Are you thinking of moving somewhere further north? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might want to bring your kids to our Christmas in July preschool storytimes at Mid-Continent Public Library's Boardwalk Branch on July 20 and 22 at 11 am. Preschool storytime includes songs, crafts, and snowball fights for kids of all ages. Registration is not required. Just come on by and think cool thoughts.
It’s summertime and another Twilight Saga movie has been released. Just you try and escape hearing about how great or stupid the books are and how awesome or horrible the latest movie is. You will fail.
I just finished generating yet another password. Every time I do this it reminds me of the growing need to remember all of the different passwords and user names that we create. It is a temptation to reuse the same password or keep a cheat sheet in your wallet, but this is not a good idea for security reasons. If you find that you have too many passwords and usernames to remember, you could look into free password managers such as KeePass, LastPass or RoboForm. Mac users can purchase 1Password, which also has an iPhone app.
