The corn is now easily higher than an elephant's eye. The corn in this picture is used for animal food or ethanol, but sweet corn is plentiful at your local store or at roadside markets. Now would be a great time to put a bit away and plan an outside camping and cooking outing, or a bonfire with friends. Our Dearborn Branch had a program about Dutch oven cooking outdoors earlier this year, and the participants thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Titanic was the largest passenger steamship in the world when she set off on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City on April 10, 1912. Four days into the crossing, at 11:40 pm on April 14, 1912, she struck an iceberg and sank at 2:20 am the following morning. It resulted in the deaths of 1,517 people, in one of the deadliest, peacetime, maritime disasters in history. The Titanic was designed by some of the most experienced engineers and used some of the most advanced technologies available at the time.
When the Platte City Branch moved to its present location in 2006, we became the first Mid-Continent Public Library branch to offer drive-through service. So when you need to stop by the library to pick up or drop off your materials, all you need to do is pull up to our drive-through window. Don’t let bad weather or a hectic schedule come between you and a trip to the library. There’s no need to even get out of your car.
Lately, there has been a huge growth in the number of people who rely on our public libraries for everything, from finding a job, to a place where they can surf the Internet, access the latest DVD releases, or perhaps just sit, relax, and read a book or newspaper.
Come in and see what the Excelsior Springs Branch has to offer.
I started an Anime Club at my branch, where they pay me to watch anime with some really cool kids once a month. I'm also on the Anime Review Committee, which allows me the opportunity to recommend and review new titles for MCPL. This is pretty much a dream come true, since I've been a big anime dork for years. Since I have a lot of people ask me, "What IS anime?", I thought I would put together a short tutorial.
Whether you like Jacob or Edward, show your team spirit at the Lone Jack Branch’s Twilight Saga Ball. Other branches have hosted Twilight Saga Balls this summer, but September 25 is your last chance! We’ll watch New Moon, play games, eat food, and have enough fun to wake the dead!
Where can you find computer classes, dogs in action, turkey finger painting, genealogy programs, live advice on finances, and more? Your library.
The Mid-Continent Public Library has a wide and diverse bunch of programs to offer you this fall. Just click on the Events tab and browse through the line up. If you want to narrow the programs list down to a certain library branch, click on that branch's name at the left of your browser.
