Autumn is here, and cooler weather is moving in. This is the time of year that I begin to think about changing leaves, cozy evenings at home, and the smell of delicious things baking in the oven. This Sunday afternoon, my husband decided to make some chili, and I found myself in the mood to bake something. But what to bake?
Ever read a good book that you can’t wait to talk to someone about, only to find out that no one you know has read it. The solution to that problem is easy. Get together with a group of your friends, and start a book club. That is what many people have done here at the Blue Springs North Branch. We have many community book clubs such as church groups, young moms, retired librarians and teachers, senior groups, mothers and daughters, or just good friends getting together once a month to discuss their favorite books.

What’s green, brown, quick moving, and highly endangered? The illusive Invisible Turtle. These contrary and complex creatures are known to inhabit all sorts of public areas, including supermarkets, Targets, Walmarts… and, you guessed it – libraries. Although, I cannot verify colonies living in all the branches of Mid-Continent, there is a group of at least twenty believed to be lurking here at Red Bridge. Rumors abound of swarms of the reptiles residing in Amazon.com Warehouses and various book stores, but this cannot be confirmed, due to the inconsistency of sightings at these locations.
My wife says that I have a special characteristic that makes me able to enjoy American literature. She calls that characteristic "tolerance". I'm not sure how she got turned off to American writing, and I'm the first to admit that it is not necessarily the best in the world. But for a nation so young, I think we've done alright so far.
