When my wife first taught me to draw, we went to the park, and I tried to sketch a particular tree. I gave up quickly because I couldn't find just the right line to draw to capture any of the angles of the many branches and leaves.
"Don't draw the tree," my wife said. "Draw around the tree."
The classics at their best can appeal to a wide range of people and diverse groups. These books manage to touch certain universal themes that apply throughout different places and time periods. Yet, it's understandable how people can disagree as to what books really deserve to be called "classics". Literary tastes and opinions simply vary. Although, I'm certainly not implying that we give up reading some of the well known classics, or that any selection process for classic books is inherently subjective or flawed.
On a recent trip to Minneapolis, MN, I had the opportunity to revisit a favorite author, Louise Erdrich. The author's book store, Birchbark Books, is located near the downtown area.
This weekend is the American Royal Barbeque, and all the celebrities of the barbecue world are going to be there: ribs, chicken, pork, brisket, and that notoriously fickle member of the entourage, beans. The American Royal Barbecue contest is, in the words of Carolyn Wells, Executive Director of the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the largest barbecue competition in the world.

The Fantastic Fiction website offers information on over 350,000 books. It is very useful when you want to find a list of all titles in a series in order of publication. You can also search under the heading of series, and there is quite a long list of series titles written by more than one author and so much more. You can also access Fantastic Fiction at mymcpl.org, go to Web Resources.
