Pink Flamingos In the Front Yard

Two plastic pink flamingos ridden by scantily clad Barbie dolls! I see this in a storefront window on my way to work every day. After 17 years of this bizarre sight, it makes a person flamingo crazy. So tacky, yet so cool.

Those famous pink wonders were the brainchild of designer Don Featherstone back in 1957. The Union Products company manufactured them until 2006. Another company purchased the copyright and the molds, so never fear - you can make your own flamingo display. Just try to top the Barbie display - it won't be easy!

Meet the Liberty Branch Grinch!

If you are a frequent or long-time patron of the Liberty Branch, you may be familiar with our larger than life Grinch. Each year, we pull out our favorite six-foot-tall handmade and hand-painted wooden library decoration. Then, we prop him up behind the circulation desk for all to see and enjoy during the holiday season.

What Lies Ahead for Magazines?

I was surprised to get the latest issue of U.S. News & World Report in the mail. It had a cover that said it was not only the latest issue, but the last. They will no longer be printed, but will available online. I've heard a number of little bits of information about the magazine industry lately.

There's NO Place Like Liberty for the Holidays!

I LOVE LIBERTY! Besides it being one of the best places to live and raise children, (in my ever so humble opinion) the historic downtown Liberty square is a "must see" this time of year. If you haven’t made time to visit, you are truly missing out on a special experience! The store fronts are filled with beautiful holiday displays, and inside you can purchase all types of unique gifts from food to fashion and flowers.

Books and Blogs?

Blogs and books? Obviously, the library thinks they're highly compatible. But, to most people, they are two different worlds. After all:

-Blogs usually update often, some several times per day.
-Books stay the same (at least until the next edition, which might be years from now).
-Blogs are written by all kinds of people, from kids to celebrities to your next-door neighbor.
-Books are usually written by a select group of well-informed adults.

Adrenaline Fiction

Some of my favorite types of books to read are those which contain several genre elements.  I really enjoy stories that have a little suspense, a mystery of sorts, and a bit of thrill to the plot.  Oh, and I love it when the author adds a psychological twist to the suspense in the book. You will find me up at 3 a.m. when I have found a treasure such as this, unable to put it down.
