Zombie Movie Mania
March 23, 2012
This past week, a bunch of our very talented teen librarians got together with a single goal: to make a zombie movie. Wait, what? How is that relevant to the library? Well, we made a zombie movie to promote our upcoming Teen Summer Reading Program! The very short promo features teen employees and teen volunteers from around the MCPL universe. We had so much fun putting it together.
There are a lot of things that go into making even a short film! First of all, you have to decide on a concept. You need a script and blocking. Then, there's costumes and makeup. Don't forget a camera person, sound guy, music, and lighting! Everyone knows you need a director and actors as well. Last, but not least, comes the editing! We have some great people working for MCPL, and some fantastic teens who helped us out. I was in charge of making fake blood and gory wounds on our zombies, and man was it fun!
Did you know you can make fake blood out of normal household ingredients? Here's what we used, and boy did it look great. (We had a slight spill outside the library, and several patrons came in concerned that there had been an injury!) It's a little runny, but it didn't seem to stain anyone's skin, which was great!
Fake Blood:
(make about 1 cup of "blood")
2/3 cup Corn Syrup
1/3 cup Water
5 Tablespoons Corn Starch
3 to 5 Teaspoons Red Food Coloring
2 or 3 Drops Green Food Coloring
