Is Your "In-TIK-llectual" Time Clock Ticking Away?
September 01, 2010
At the beginning of the 20th century, so many exceptional intellects provided the world with unique and entertaining literary and artistic contributions. The early 1900’s produced a tornado of creative innovation.
L. Frank Baum was one such contributor. He was a cyclone of creativity, who welcomed ideas from his young readers, and often incorporated their suggestions - to the enormous success of his 14 published OZ stories.
Yet, it was not the wonderment of L. Frank Baum’s writing alone that propelled the OZ stories into everlasting success. For even after his death, Ruth Plumly Thompson continued to entertain devoted readers with the antics of all OZ characters, good and evil. The completion of that very successful formula – the ever intertwining association between each of the two writers and success – was most surely the delightfully, imaginative artwork contributed by John R. Neill, who sometimes curiously signed his name, ‘JNO R Neill’, and sometimes…did not!
