Your Kearney Staff is Sleeping on the Job!
August 24, 2012
Well, sort of. This month, MCPL’s wellness challenge includes attempting to get seven hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. Just seven hours. Simple right?
Not really. Why is sleeping such hard work?
Numerous studies show how profoundly our sleep habits impact our health. There are great benefits to getting those magic seven hours according to Health.com. They include: improved creativity, improved memory, improved athletic performance, and improved test scores for students. Getting a good night’s sleep will help you be a safer driver, lose weight, and avoid depression. Sounds like a miracle cure, right?
Many of us here at the Kearney Branch, and probably many of you, find it very difficult to either fall asleep or get back to sleep each night. Those seven uninterrupted hours remain a worthy but elusive goal. Happily, there are resources here at MCPL can help us get on track to dream land.
Over 25 titles popped up when I searched the catalog using the subject, "insomnia." My favorite title was Sleep to be Sexy, Smart and Slim. Gotta check that one out! Several articles in the MCPL Health Research Databases also offered drowsy advice.
If you’re a chronic under-sleeper like many of us, check out a book or do a little research, and join this month’s MCPL wellness challenge.
Sweet Dreams!
