Young @ Heart

January 22, 2013

When planning for our big event, Young@ Heart:Open House, I had a really large obstacle to overcome. The event focuses on free services offered by many Clay County organizations to those age 50 and up. The problem I ran into was the fact that many people this age and over do not like to be referred to as senior. I had to try to describe the event and get across to our customers that these services were for customers of a certain age. I did not realize before I worked on the first event we had last May how much of an issue this could be. To be honest, I am not that far off from this "certain age" group! My husband is a new member of the AARP as well. After much discussion in the branch from all age groups, we settled on the title for our next event this coming May, Young@Heart.

Now that this has been settled, we are getting ready for the big day. On May 29th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., we will host several organizations that include: AARP, Meals on Wheels,  an On the Move representative, CLAIM, Social Security Office Rep., Kathy Lee from the VFW, and many more! We are excited to have this event for our customers and look forward to seeing you here.

Don’t wait for May to get the benefit of AARP! Volunteers will be at many of our branches preparing taxes. Call your local branch for details.
