"You Are Here" TSRP Kicks Off - With Video!

May 09, 2011

The time of year I always look forward to is finally here! No, not finals ... summer! With summer comes the MCPL Summer Reading Program, and I hope you know what that means ... FREE STUFF! That's right folks; we are giving away books and prizes just for reading. It may seem wacky - crazy even - but we are seriously excited about reading. We want you to be excited too, and that's why this year we have a special treat.

Some of your favorite teen programmers got together and put together this amazing TSRP video. We worked pretty hard on it, and everyone sacrificed. (Peyton even volunteered to wear my bathrobe!) We gave up on dignity and settled for the cheap laugh. We dressed up in costumes and got covered in glitter. We risked 7 years of bad luck by opening an umbrella indoors. We named our sweet character moves ("Glitter Kiss", "Aeronautical Feats of Strength", "Wand Action" ... I think you get the idea). I walked in impossible heels for many hours, and this is the end result. I could not be more proud of what we came up with, and I am so excited to share it with you!

Ever get to that point where you are just desperate for something to do? Maybe you're waiting for your mom to pick you up from school, or you're in the longest line ever! Maybe you are bored to tears and refreshing Facebook just isn't cutting it, or you've been studying for your ACT for 5 straight hours. Maybe you're stuck at home on a Friday night with a busted up leg, or you're down with a wicked cold. We've got you covered: with a book, you can be wherever you want!

Sign up for our Teen Summer Reading Program starting this week. Register online or in one of our branches. Start reading any book you check out from any MCPL location, and hit your first goal at 360 minutes (that's 6 hours, or 2 weeks of 15 minutes a day). Official kickoff starts May 23rd, and that's when we can start handing out prizes! We give you the opportunity to complete 3 goals, and give you the option of choosing from a Rubix cube keychain, an Etch-a-Sketch keychain, a Successful Reader book bag, or another fantastic book for your final goal. For a list of what books we are giving away, check out your local branch.
