WorldCat Lets You Borrow From Across the Country
December 30, 2010
Mid-Continent Public Library has an inventory of over three million books, audiobooks, videos, and CDs. But, what if you would like something not in our library catalog? Then, it is time to turn to a tool called WorldCat. Through WorldCat, you can look at the holdings of libraries across the United States, and place requests for items you would like.
To use WorldCat, go to the MCPL homepage and look for the Catalog link at the top. After clicking on the Catalog link, clink on the link which says; "Request materials the library does not own through WorldCat". Then, you are ready to search the holdings of libraries across the country.
Most libraries loan materials to others. It's an example of the best cooperation agencies can have. No library can buy and house everything forever, but we can borrow many titles from other libraries. Someone will likely have it.
It is our pleasure to enrich people's lives with the materials they want through this service. Whether for recreation or education, we fill many requests this way each year. If you would like to borrow titles not in Mid-Continent's collection, give WorldCat a try. The staff of any Mid-Continent branch can help you with the process if you have questions.
