Winter Antics
January 26, 2011
I’m having so much fun watching the antics of the squirrels and birds on the deck. The squirrels hang upside down from the bird feeders and swing back and forth, stuffing their mouths with bird seed. A pair of cardinals aren’t very happy with them. Sometimes, two of the squirrels will squabble over the food, and one will lose his grip and hit the ground. The snow provides a soft landing and he tries again. Also, the puffy snow adds to the picture. I think I’ll get a bird feeder that will shut down all the feeding stations when a squirrel’s weight lands on the feeder. Maybe, I can find a book at the library that will show me how to make one. In any event, the innocent antics of the wildlife in my backyard really helps relieve the monotony of long stretches of snowbound winter. Dixie S.
