Why read Y?
July 13, 2010
Last week a patron came to the desk wanting more books like Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely. Of course, my first response was to ask exactly what she meant. Did she want more books about romance, more fantasy, or more teen books? Her response: “I didn’t know this was a Teen book.”
You’d be surprised how far teen fiction has come. Many of our adult patrons regularly visit our teen section. The books range from the light and funny to profoundly moving (just like regular adult fiction). The only differences between “Y” (or youth) fiction and adult titles are the ages of the characters. Besides, who wouldn’t want to be a teen again (well, minus the geometry homework and curfew)?
