Why a New Website?

August 02, 2010

Have you noticed our new website yet?  You know, the one where you found this blog?  Well, some people are wondering why we at the library got a new website anyway so here are the top two reasons.

First, the Internet changes quickly.  Like every day!  Our previous website was 14 years old.  Do you know what else was new 14 years ago?  The Internet!  Seriously, in the last decade and a half, the online world has changed greatly. Our previous site was simply getting clunky.

Second, well, the library is really great.  I mean really, really great. We wanted a better way to show you how great it is and how much we have to offer.  Now you can get book recommendations much more easily.  You can see all the programs at every branch.  You can create a profile so the site will tailor information to your preferences.  Maps to the branches are more clear, and you have loads more access to not just what the library has, but what the library does--from homework help to job-finding to learning to crochet.  But even these are not the best features of the new website.

The best new features, of course, are the blogs.

I really like the way the new website is set up! I think it's cool that there are blogs and ways to find new things and polls! :)
