Why I Love August!

August 20, 2012

People say they hate the month of August. Call me crazy, but I love August. Yes, it’s hot, but it is also the light at the end of the tunnel for cooler days ahead. The water in the pool is too hot to swim in – but in just a few weeks, we get to close up that deep black hole that all of our money for the summer goes into! And yes, the kids are restless and driving you crazy –  but most of them are headed back to school shortly, if not already there. Those dreaded television reruns will be over soon, and we will have new shows to look forward to watching.

August is peaceful and quiet. The rapid frantic pace of the busy summer slows down to a drawl. The only noises you hear are katydids and a few lawnmowers. Another successful SRP is completed. Parents and teachers are coming back into the Library to check out books for themselves or for their students, and inquiring about upcoming programs for the fall. Our regular storytime programs on Wednesday morning with Ms. Kat will start up again in September. It’s so nice to see returning customers who may have been gone for the summer.

I love August. It’s the opportunity to look forward to the beginning of so many nice things to come!
