Why Do We Tell Kids That the Sky Is Blue?
September 13, 2012
Seriously, why do we tell children that the sky is BLUE? It is only blue sometimes. Other days it is black, gray, white, orange… And, even when it IS blue, it isn’t always the same shade of blue.
This is my most recent train of thought that was inspired by a book I read. I love it when I find a section or quote in a book that ignites a new train of thought. I believe that is one of the best benefits of reading.
The character in the book commented that the word "blue" is not sufficient when describing "sky" and "water." Those blues are very different. Honestly, both sky and water can be many different shades of blue or not blue at all.
So, if you want to teach your young child about the real colors of the sky, check out this beautiful picture book, Blue Sky, by Audrey Wood, .
