Who's Your Cake Boss?
March 18, 2011
I just finished reading Cake Boss: Stories and Recipes From Mia Famiglia and saw insight into the real Boss, the Cake Boss that is. Buddy Valastro is from Hoboken, New Jersey, which is right around the corner from my old stomping ground. He took over his father’s bakery business, Carlo’s Bakery, which he now operates with his mother, four sisters, and three brothers-in-law. Buddy married his soul-mate Lisa and has four of his own children.
Buddy made his mark when his bakery show, The Cake Boss, aired on The Learning Channel. Buddy shows off his talents from his beautiful fondant cakes to his signature pies and cookies that are not only available in his Hoboken store, but are now going national.
Buddy also hosted the TLC series, The Next Great Baker, which allowed average bakers to prove themselves worthy of becoming the next baker for the Carlo’s Bakery.
Buddy recalls that as Carlo’s continues to grow, they go through an increasingly amount of ingredients. Each week they use:
- 800 lbs of cream cheese
- 2 tons of sugar
- 4 tons of flour
- 1,000 lbs of butter
- 1 ton of shortening
This show is a fun, family series that showcases the talents of several of the family members, and also shows how much this family values the time they spend together. Try out some recipes for yourself, and see if he really is the Cake Boss.
