Who Would Have Thought, Dearborn??

December 01, 2012

Who would ever have thought that the small town of Dearborn, MO would ever gain national attention? Thanks to the largest Power Ball Jackpot in Missouri history, Dearborn, (pronounced "Dearburn" by the locals) became famous nationally for selling one of the winning power ball tickets. That alone gave the town national recognition, but add the fact that the winner was a local family, and you have quite the media frenzy. Granted, we have had our share of the local news stations showing up once in a while for one story or another, but this was the big time!

In the thick of all the national attention, our Library became a hub of activity! Since we have the only public Wi-Fi in town, we had several of the news media coming in and using our services to work on their stories. While we could help them out with providing Internet service, a quiet place to work, and recommendations on a place to get a good meal, we were careful to follow MCPL's privacy policy and didn't disclose any information about our local "new celebrities," even when national media was calling.

Yes, Dearborn is all abuzz with excitement right now, but hopefully it won't be long until we get to normal .

I didn't realize how to pronounce Dearborn. Now I do. It must have been interesting to have the media using the library.
