Who Was That Conductor?

December 10, 2010

When I was younger, I looked forward to something in the month of December besides Christmas: The Christmas Specials. From A Charlie Brown Christmas to The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, I loved to watch them all – and I was even a little upset when I missed one. Strangely enough, I don’t think I ever missed a showing of Rudolph the Red-Nosed-Reindeer. The other night, I had the sudden urge to go and find one of these beloved cartoon specials of my childhood – The Garfield Christmas Special. Where else does a person turn to these days other than YouTube? I wasn’t sure if I’d find it, due to various copyright laws, but it was there – along with several others I’d all but forgotten.

One special I only saw once or twice was a Claymation Christmas featuring the California Raisins. But after it showed up in the ‘Related Videos’ tab with Garfield, I wanted to see if it was as I remembered it. It nearly was. My two favorite clips of the show were ‘We Three Kings’ and ‘Carol of the Bells.’ Now being older and having read a great deal more, I can now fully get the jokes that precede the video. Even if you’ve only seen Disney’s version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame,  you’ll be able to get the short string of commentary.

Happy Reading and Viewing!
