Who Inspires You?

July 07, 2012

Do you have a teacher, minister, parent, or other person who you find inspiring and who you would like to emulate? I have always thought I would love to be an author. In order to learn, I have attended many author events at Rainy Day Books in Kansas City. After hearing the process that many of the authors I have met use, I determined that I probably do not have what it takes.

One of the most inspirational authors I have read is Stephen King. Not only do I enjoy his books, I am amazed how he overcame adversity to continue to write. Many of you may remember that he was run over by a vehicle while he was walking down the side of a road. One of the descriptions that I heard about his injuries that really stuck with me was that when he landed, his upper body was facing one way and his lower body was facing the other.

He has overcome pain, multiple surgeries, and probably depression in order to keep writing. Shortly after the accident, he stated in an interview that he could only sit for an hour at a time, which really impacted his ability to type his thoughts. And yet, several years after the accident, he completed a book called Under the Dome, which is 1,074 pages! Now I find that inspirational!
