Who are The People In Your Neighborhood?

August 01, 2012

Well, that is a really fantastic question if we've ever heard one. And, we have a heard a lot of really fantastic questions around here. So, to aid in dispelling some of the mystery about exactly who is out in your community, we present this, the first in a series of blogs introducing readers to your fabulous Platte City Branch staff.

And thus we begin our fabulous informational journey with the ever popular......Jean!

Jean has been a presence at the Platte City Branch for over three years as an employee. However, she has been a Library patron and Platte City resident for almost fifty years. She graduated from Blue Springs High School, but moved to Platte City to help her father run his new business, the Siesta Café and Service Station. After spending 35 years working for several car dealerships, she finally retired in 1997. She worked several part-time jobs before settling in at the Platte City Branch. Outside of the Library, Jean has several hobbies that keep her busy. She is actively involved in her church, even hosting a Bible study group in her home twice a month. She also spends plenty of time with her large family, which includes a son, two daughters, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and even 2 great-great grandchildren!

As if she wasn’t busy enough, Jean spends several hours a week working with us at the Library. One of her main duties includes handling the numerous donations that we receive as well as working the circulation desk, aiding patrons. She says this is her favorite part of the job: she enjoys seeing our customers, and talking with friends she has made in her several years in the community. She describes the Library as being a home to her, both as an employee and a patron herself.
