When It Is Summer in Missouri...
June 06, 2013
When it’s almost summer in Missouri…it’s time to plan a road trip! And what better destination than the Midwest Genealogy Center? By previous arrangement, two bus tours contacted us for dates in April to visit. One bus tour was a genealogical society located in the central part of Kansas. This group has been here several times before, so they know the riches of our resources and collection. They came for three days. Side trips to the National Archives in Kansas City are usually arranged for them also. But the majority of these researchers are shuttled to and from their hotel for three days of intensive research.
Most recently, we had a new group from Nebraska visit. This was their first trip to our facility. I was very impressed with their preparation. The group, with half of them beginning genealogists, contacted us early in February. Upon their request, I mailed 50 of our information packets to them so they could become familiar with our forms. An excited group disembarked from their tour bus on Saturday.
After I welcomed them, we divided the group into beginners and experienced genealogists. The experienced genealogists went with our volunteers on a short tour of our Library, then they got down to their genealogy business. I gave the beginners a presentation on how to get started; I explained our forms, demonstrated search capabilities of our catalog, introduced briefly some of our databases, and after a tour of our facility, these beginners were ready to explore their family heritage. Our expert staff was on hand to answer questions and guide all genealogists to our resources.
So, whether you are a member of a group of 50 or just by yourself, or whether you are coming for the afternoon or an extended stay, contact us here at the Midwest Genealogy Center. We are always ready to accommodate you in your genealogical research.
Both groups promised they would be back!
