What Are Your Plans This Thanksgiving?
November 22, 2011
It’s hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away. Are you heading out of town to visit family? Or, are you hosting the meal this year? Regardless of your plans, I am sure you are spending these last few hours before the holiday doing chores, making last minute grocery store runs, and plotting your Black Friday shopping trip.
If you are staying in the Kansas City area this year, consider getting out and about to enjoy one of these local events as part of your Thanksgiving plan.
Wednesday night, Longview Lake launches its 2011 Christmas in the Park light display with a fireworks show to kick off the season. Load up the family, grab some hot chocolate to go, crank up the holiday tunes, and take a drive through the festive light showcase.
On Thanksgiving Day, the Country Club Plaza will present the 2011 Plaza Lighting Ceremony, sponsored by Kansas City Power and Light. Gary Lezak of the NBC Action News weather team is forecasting a warm yet windy Thanksgiving Day, so it sounds like the conditions will be favorable for the ceremony. The guest of honor this year is Kansas City native Eric Stonestreet, who plays Cam on the sitcom Modern Family. Entertainment begins around 5 p.m., leading up to the flip of the switch at 6:50 p.m.
If you like to fill your "Turkey Day" weekend celebration with sports, venture out to a Missouri Mavericks hockey game on Friday night at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday afternoon, head over to Arrowhead stadium for the 2:30 p.m. kickoff of what could be the last football game between historic college rivals, the Kansas Jayhawks and the Missouri Tigers.
As the weekend wears on, if you just can’t bear to eat another turkey sandwich, consider taking advantage of your last chance to have dinner or drinks over at the Skies Restaurant and Lounge at the Hyatt Regency. This long-time fine dining fixture located at Crown Center is closing its doors forever on December 1st.
With all the items that pile up on our to-do lists this time of year, it is important to take some time to relax and enjoy the season with family and friends.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
