What Are These Silly Bandz?

August 31, 2010

“I’ll trade you a Glow-in-the-dark Dinosaur for a pink set of grapes?”

“How about a drum set for a neon pair of sunglasses?”

These are just some of the conversations that have been overheard as people discuss the ever growing fad of Silly Bandz!!!

I, myself, find this need to acquire shaped, small, rubber bands to be highly juvenile. Needless to say, I can’t stop collecting them!

Every time I see a display of these little bands, I have to check out the theme and see if I can’t live without them. From fairies to dinosaurs, musical instruments to letters, I can’t seem to stop collecting them. (No matter how tight they are on my wrist!)

I will admit, I am a fad-hound! I collected and played with Pogs. I had my own serious collection of Troll dolls, and I even was sent to the principal’s office for overuse of my holographic slap bracelet.

Of all the fads I have collected over the years, Silly Bandz are my favorite so far. They are easily available (CVS, grocery stores, shopping malls, and even convenience stores), bought in bulk (12 for $1.99-$3.99), and are made to be shared! That is what I love the most. I have had more than a few people trade with me, right here in the library. That is how I got my favorite band so far. My black dog!! I’ll trade you my letters, I’ll trade you my fairies, but don’t touch my black dog!

I totally traded with him! I got a glow in the dark pink grapes! I'm still wearing it!

I haven't traded any recently (except with my older sister), but I am always on the lookout for more Silly Bandz!!

Didn't my brother trade with you Jessica? It was a glow-in-the-dark dragon I think. It made him sooo happy! He talked about it for weeks.

Lets see...I think I saw them at walmart for $.99...or maybe it was $1.99. I cant remember now. But that was over a month ago, so they have probably gone up since then.

I like collecting them! My favorites are faith bands and Glow in the Dark bands. Unfortunately, my older sister hates them and I don't have anyone to trade them to.

I don't think I have seen any for less than 2.99 lately. You're right they are going up in price!
Do you have a favorite shape or do you just like the colors? I may have to start doing that!!

Yeah, I'm in love with these things. I have about 30 packages and I only wear the colors that are on my outfit each day! I've got alot of colors, today Im wearing purple and light blue!!! Post a comment if you find them cheaper than 2.00! I would be happy if you did because they're getting more expensive as they get even more popular!
