The last year has seen some really strange weather. As I write this, we have just experienced 2 days in the 80s, when just the week before it was cold and rainy. Now the forecasters tell us that we could be experiencing record low high temperatures in the 40s.
Also, from late winter to spring 2013, we have seen a lot of precipitation in our region after suffering a severe drought most of 2012. Interesting! Since I’m a life-long, proud Missourian, you could say I’m kind of used to weather like this. You know if you don’t like the weather around here, just wait 24 hours and it will change. However, I have to admit, this year is a little strange. All the trees and flowering plants are late blooming, and allergy suffers are having to endure high pollen counts later than normal.
There is a lot of debate as to if weather patterns are changing, or if this is just nature being it’s cyclical self. I’m not going to get into that debate here, because there are many opinions and theories regarding weather patterns; we are each entitled to our thoughts and opinions.
I find weather and weather statistics interesting and there are many sources to locate these. One I would recommend is the website for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or as most know it NOAA. Here you will find a wealth of information on weather extremes and trends, as well as current conditions.
Remember, as much as we all like to talk about it, whether positive or negative, weather affects us all.
