We Were Students Once Too!

September 16, 2011

We’re well on our way into the school year. Who can believe that it’s half-way through September? Not me! But here at Parkville, we feel like we're missing out on the wonderfulness that is a new school year, and so we’ve been reminiscing about our old school days. I remember the slightly stale smell of the halls, the awkward first day of class wondering who I could sit next to that I knew, everyone screaming over each other to talk to the person the next locker over, the terribly wonderful chicken nugget Wednesdays, and that beautiful smell of fresh, new crayons waiting to be used in art class at third period. Oh, those were the days.

I took the liberty to ask my fellow librarians here at Parkville what some of their favorite things were from school, and here are their answers:

-History class
-Something new to learn each semester
-Smell of crayons
-Lisa Frank folders
-Art class
-Hanging out with my friends at lunch
-Recess
-Picking fights with my physics teach
-My hot pink ball gown for Homecoming
-Bonfires
-Skateboarding with my friends
-My unicorn pencil box
-New saddle shoes
-Baseball
-The “light bulb” moment when I finally got something!
-Jump rope
-Dissecting frogs
-Hot Roll Wednesdays - every Wednesday in high school was chicken patty and hot roll day. My friends and I would make a meal out of 4 hot rolls and butter. Easy lunch.
-Naptime
-Summer vacation meant something
-My epic perm
-New pencils
-Being able to do hand springs
-The greatest Bridges teacher ever!
-Spelling bees
-Waiting to see who would pick me for their kick ball team...hoping I was not the last one picked
-Milk cartons
-Building a volcano
-Realizing I shouldn’t play sports
-Monkey bars
-Backboard dodge ball
-Chasing boys
-9th Grade Speech class, my favorite class and teacher
-The parachute in P.E.
-The pet snake in the biology lab
-Finding out who was in my class so I could know who to pass notes to
-Kickball
-Exchanging Valentines in special mailboxes
-Working in the cafeteria
-Smell of a new textbook
-Dodge ball
-Free reading time

Most certainly those were the days. What kind of days they were, I'm still unsure but days they were indeed, and I love reminiscing on them.

What are your some of your favorite things from school?
