Viva Elvis!
January 05, 2012
We have a very momentous occasion coming up on January 8th, 2012. This would have been Elvis Presley's 77th birthday.
I have been an Elvis fan since middle school age when my sister gave me a 45 rpm record of his hit song "Little Sister" for my birthday. My family even toured his home in Memphis, Tennessee. My husband gives me Elvis calendars every year at Christmas for my desk at work. Needless to say, I am a huge fan. Besides that, we both share January 8th for our birthdays.
The very best memory was when my husband and I saw Elvis perform his act in Las Vegas. It was not long after that time that he passed away. The world will never be the same without Elvis. At least I have the memory of him as a younger person.
If anyone is interested in reading about Elvis's life, the library has some wonderful books to check out. We also have many of his CDs and a lot of his movies.
Turner Classic Movies always show a lot of Elvis Presley movies around his birthday. On January 7th, if you get up at 6 a.m., you can watch Clambake, It Happened at the World's Fair, and Spinout. Or, you can sleep in and request those movies and more from MCPL to watch them over and over again.
Enjoy your Sunday, January 8th, and have a piece of birthday cake for me and Elvis Presley.

My son also shares his
My son also shares his birthday with Elvis. I was not happy all the way to the hospital that day in 1987 though as I didn't want my child to share his birthday with such a famous person. Don't get me wrong, I like Elvis, but I wanted my child to have his own special day. Since he'll be turning 25 this year and he's doing fine I guess sharing his birthday with Elvis has not been a hindrance :)

I think that a lot of people don't even realize that January 8 was Elvis' birthday. Glad that your son is doing well and tell him Happy Birthday from another Jan 8th person.
