A Visit to the Clay County Archives and Historical Library
June 27, 2013
Recently, I had the opportunity to take a field trip to the Clay County Archives in Liberty, Missouri. The volunteer staff was very helpful and made my trip very enjoyable. I was amazed at their collection. They have Clay County probate records, early marriage records, civil and criminal court records, school records, information about local businesses, and of course, they have a section of books on one of Clay County’s most infamous resident, Jesse James. I had a wonderful afternoon looking at the information they had on my hometown of Excelsior Springs and was surprised to find quite a lot of information regarding neighboring Ray County, too.
For anyone doing genealogy research in Clay County, Missouri, I would definitely recommend a trip to the Clay County Archives.
