Veterans Salute 2010
October 19, 2010
Mid-Continent Public Library (MCPL) will host its annual Veterans Salute from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010. This free event to honor American veterans will be hosted by the Platte City Branch of MCPL.
The Platte City Branch, located at 2702 Prairie View Road, will be turned into a museum to commemorate World War II, the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. Museum-quality memorabilia and equipment displays staffed by knowledgeable volunteers will be available throughout the library. Vintage military vehicles will also be available for the public’s enjoyment. The volunteers will include veterans and current officers from varying military services with a wide range of experience.
The educational and interactive event will give the public a visual insight to military combat with a weapons demonstration and World War II reenactment throughout the morning. In the afternoon a veteran’s roundtable discussion will provide patrons a chance to meet decorated veterans and hear their stories.
Christen Rhodes, branch manager at the MCPL Boardwalk Branch, describes the event as “a good example of living history.” This event is open to all ages and registration is not required. For more information contact the Platte City Branch at (816) 858-2322.
