TV Time
November 19, 2010
Sometimes working in a library, I feel a little out of place. You may ask why? I like watching TV, and almost every day a customer will comment that there is nothing on TV. So, they come to the library to stock up on books. I think people feel that because I’m working at the library, I agree with this statement.
Now I’m sure there are many of my fellow workers like me, TV fans. I know at our branch there are some, at least those that will admit it. The new season has started, and I’ve already found several new shows I like, as well as my returning favorites. But sometimes, there really isn’t anything you want to watch, and you just want to chill out in front of that big electronic box. Mid-Continent Public Libraries has an excellent selection of DVD’s, and yes, even some VHS tapes to fill your evenings or weekends with whatever your interests.
I particularly like the classic TV shows, which take me back to when I was growing up or even before, when life just seemed simpler. Another area I enjoy is DVDs featuring rock/pop music from the 60s, 70s & 80s. It’s fun to see what I thought was really cool and cutting edge, now seem funny and dated. I have recently watched old episodes of Maude, All in the Family, Barnaby Jones, and classic episodes of The Price is Right. If you want to see some fun clips of early rock stars, Ed Sullivan Rock 'n' Roll Classics will really take you back.
Next time you’re at your local MCPL, don’t forget to check out the Audiovisual materials, I guarantee you will find something for just about any taste, maybe even something from the good old days.
