Treat Yourself to a Day at the Tivoli

The Tivoli is one of Kansas City's little wonders, a cozy theater where you can see foreign and independent films, films you might not even hear about otherwise. It's nestled in Westport, which transforms from a popular Saturday drinking spot to a lively place of arts and culture, seemingly overnight. I've long wanted to pay the Tivoli a visit, but just got around to it this past weekend. It seems I've been missing out! I had a wonderful experience. I went with a friend to see The Details, which stars Tobey Maguire of Spiderman fame. It's a hilarious tale that highlights the value of communication and of striving to do the right thing-even when life gets crazy.

The movies that are shown at the Tivoli are changed out on a much more regular basis than the blockbusters you're used to viewing at your local AMC. A film may run for only a week or two. The constantly changing selection can be a headache if you miss seeing something you had your eye on, but it also allows for the showing of a larger range of films.

If you're looking for a change, give the Tivoli a try. It's slightly less expensive than AMC, and you'll be exposed to some great movies you might never have the opportunity to see otherwise. And stop by Tea Drops beforehand and complement your experience with a cup of fresh-brewed tea and a scone.
